The Fluorochemicals business unit operates in a complex regulatory, intellectual property and competitive environment. This permanent position as Senior Scientist will be based at Koura’s site in Runcorn. The successful Senior Scientist will independently lead process development activities to manufacture fluorinated compounds, including the execution of research and development studies, and setting up and running of pilot facilities.

Accountabilities of the Senior Scientist:

  • Manage and conduct multiple experimental programs related to refrigerant manufacture/catalysis and battery materials, ensuring project timelines are met, resources and equipment in place to meet project requirements.
  • Technical leadership, ability to influence, ability to better define roadmap and path forward for self and team on ambiguous projects, and ability to comfortably work throughout the R&D to scale-up continuum are highly valued.
  • Critical assessment of alternative manufacturing options (technical and economic) to ensure the optimum route is selected.
  • Record, interpret and monitor experimental data to ensure high quality results are generated that can be used by internal customers to direct engineering projects. Regularly prepare and present results to the Growth and Technology leadership team.
  • Identification and coordination of modifications required to equipment or facilities in order to meet present and foreseeable future project requirements.
  • Preparation of CAPEX proposals to support current and future growth activities.

To be successful as the Senior Scientist it is essential to have extensive knowledge and experience of catalysis and working in a laboratory environment, safety systems and analytical chemistry. Industrial experience in a research and development role with supervisory experience of lab-based activities. The successful Senior Scientist will also hold a Ph.D or Masters degree qualification in Chemistry (or related).
