Description

The Studio Supervisors role is to supervise a smooth flow of work through the studio department ensuring that all company policy and procedures are being fulfilled inline with the studio QA. To encourage action which satisfies the company’s aim of providing a satisfactory service to its customers, through a motivated workforce.

 

The Studio Supervisor is responsible for all equipment and members of staff in the Studio Department.

 

The Studio Supervisor reports and is answerable to the Production Manager.

Areas of Responsibility

The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are the minimum requirements for the position of Studio Supervisor.

Knowledge of Systems Related to Manufacturing

A Studio Supervisor needs to have an understanding of the principles and problems of manufacturing the digital and printed product to meet the required demands of the company and customer in a timely manner.  He/she will:

  • Oversee the operation of all phases of the Studio department

  • Advise and make recommendations to management with respect to the best interests of the company whenever Studio activities are involved

  • Solve technical problems where feasible and necessary relating to operation of equipment or work

  • To aid in the research and proposals where necessary in new technology to aid in the company’s future growth and production potential within the Studio Department.

  • The Studio Supervisor must:

  • Communicate effectively

  • Exhibit and use coaching skills

  • Have a wide range of problem-solving techniques

  • Have good interpersonal skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution

  • Have organisational and time management skills

  • Be able to aid in training and motivation of staff


Planning and Scheduling

  • Plan and schedule personnel and equipment effectively and efficiently to minimise bottlenecks and problems

  • To check the job bag’s to make sure that the instructions are accurate to achieve the customers required date before production commences.

  • Plan for delays

  • Forecast work, long and short-term

  • Supervise and issue job orders to Studio employees.

  • Delegate specific duties to staff.

 

Measuring Results and Solving Problems

  • Keep jobs on schedule and, in case of delays, give the sales representatives and/or customer service representatives maximum notification of change in schedule

  • Collect data where necessary and required.

  • Aid the production Manager in establishing procedures for the department

  • Perform and supervise the performance of manufacturing standards within the department.

  • Aid where necessary in the tracking of costs and spoilage

  • Schedule overtime as needed on a cost-effective basis with the approval of the production Manager.

  • Aid in reducing waste and spoilage


Human Relations

  • Evaluate performance where required and necessary

  • Give recognition for outstanding effort

  • Aid the Production Manager in disciplinary measures where and when required

  • To reprimand and highlight to the production Manager members who do not perform satisfactorily

  • Comply with lawful employment practices

  • Comply with environmental laws

  • Manage conflict

  • Negotiate with Studio employees over grievances and report unsettled grievances to Production Manager.

  • Ensure that staff understands and complies with all operational and work practices with strong attention to safety


Training, Coaching, and Motivating Staff

  • Motivate and empower employees where feasible

  • To aid the Production Manager in identifying and implementing any relevant training to complement and improve yourself and the departmental staff
