Description

We are seeking a full-time Strategic Buyer to start as soon as possible ideally. This is a superb opportunity for an experienced procurement specialist to join the team at a well-established and growing manufacturing business in the East Midlands (Oakham).

Reporting to the Commercial Director, the successful candidate will have a pivotal role in developing Rutland Plastics’ procurement function to meet the future needs of the business. With an ability to learn quickly you will be expected to ‘hit the ground running’ with the transactional requirements of the role, whilst starting to build relationships with suppliers. You will also formulate initiatives, using a strategic approach to supply chain management and delivering value-added initiatives to move the business forward.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the daily order suggestions and raise purchase orders.
  • Maximise stock availability whilst minimising stock levels in line with lean principles.
  • Build and manage supplier relationships, evaluating delivery and contractual supply chain performance.
  • Maintain current and accurate purchase data including price, lead time, minimum stocks, etc.
  • Support Operations OEE targets by ensuring timely deliveries.
  • Manage down slow-moving stock and, in conjunction with the technical team, reduce the number of SKUs.
  • Support multiple departments by obtaining quotes from suppliers, assisting with the ad-hoc procurement process outside of the day-to-day manufacturing buying.
  • Be proactive in identifying new value-added opportunities across the organisation to help deliver key measures (see below); gain buy-in from stakeholders and deploy across the functions.

Key Measures:

  • Reduce the value of stock as a percentage of turnover.
  • Reduce the number of SKUs.
  • Maximise cash flow/working capital through purchasing timings and alignment with production.
  • Implement stockholding arrangements with suppliers without affecting price.
  • Contribute to OEE through increased on-time deliveries.

Your Essential Skills / Knowledge:

  • At least 3 years buying experience, ideally in a high throughput manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work independently and take the initiative when required.
  • Extensive experience using MRP / ERP systems.
  • Sound knowledge of supply chain processes and procedures including manufacturing planning, demand, and replenishment processes.
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to reason and influence at all levels.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in computer skills, especially MS Office and Google applications.
  • Possibly with professional qualifications in purchasing. CIPS preferred or studying towards.
