Description

Rutland Plastics is seeking a Tooling / Project Engineer to support the Design and Project Engineering department with the New Product Introduction process.

The successful candidate will be a natural communicator, with exceptional organisation skills and experience managing the introduction of new mould tools from design through to manufacture.

Reporting to the Technical Manager the key responsibilities for this role are:

  • Supporting the day-to-day running of the Design and Project Engineering department
  • Reviewing part designs to highlight manufacturing issues (DFM)
  • Review tool designs (GA’s) to ensure they meet Rutland Plastics tooling specifications
  • Manage tooling projects from order to completion
  • Review sample and inspection reports and implement corrective actions
  • Keeping track of project progress and updating timing plans
  • Ensure that company project management processes are implemented on all projects
  • Maintaining liaison between project stakeholders, including suppliers and customers
  • Create, update and improve standardised documents and processe.
  • Support the quoting process of new products and mould tools.

The essential requirements required for this role are:

  • Knowledge of the injection moulding process and standard defects
  • Good understanding of engineering principles
  • Excellent understanding of complex injection mould tools
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and dimensional reports
  • Capability to work under pressure
  • Able to demonstrate a logical approach to problem-solving
  • Positive outgoing personality, able to motivate others
  • Data management, including the use of ERP systems
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Computer skills for writing reports, reporting progress and communicating by email
  • Proven team player
  • A strong customer focus, and the ability to build effective working relationships with employees and external suppliers

Desirable Criteria

  • Toolmaking or tool design background
  • Degree/HND/HNC or equivalent in an engineering discipline.
  • Experience working in a toolmaking or injection moulding environment
  • Experience working with tooling suppliers in Europe and the far east
  • Ability to use CAD software (Vero Visi)
  • Experience using mould flow simulation software (Moldex3D)
  • Project management experience
