Building the Future with Birmingham City Universit...

At Birmingham City University (BCU), we believe that progress begins by understanding the needs of today while embracing the promise of tomorrow. That’s why apprenticeships are at the core of our mission: not just to transform lives, but to help shape a future where industries are empowered, sustainable, and forward-thinking.

As part of our Rooted in Birmingham, Reaching Beyond 2030 Strategy, we are committed to serving the heart of our city while expanding our reach to businesses, industries, and communities across the UK. Apprenticeships at BCU offer an innovative pathway to bridge the skills gap, ensuring that our workforce is not only prepared for the challenges of today but also equipped to meet the demands of tomorrow.

Our apprenticeship programs are directly aligned with the evolving needs of local businesses and the industries shaping the future. As Birmingham’s needs change, so too do the opportunities we provide. We are continually expanding our portfolio to address critical skill gaps, all while ensuring students gain the practical experience they need to thrive in their careers.

This includes launching innovative pathways in high-demand sectors that have rapidly emerged as pillars of our economy, such as Cyber Security, Construction Engineering, and Architecture. These sectors are essential to driving the UK's economy forward, and our apprenticeships are designed to meet both local and national needs by creating a workforce that is adaptable, resilient, and future-ready.

In celebration of National Apprenticeship Week 2025, BCU will host a Discovery Event on February 11th, showcasing these new apprenticeship opportunities. This event invites businesses to explore a variety of apprenticeship programs, including those in Cyber Security, Construction Engineering, and Architecture.

Attendees will have the unique opportunity to engage directly with our academic teams, learn about the specific benefits these apprenticeships offer, and discover how they can support businesses in building a skilled and adaptable workforce.

Hannah Robinson, Director of Student and Academic Services at BCU, shares:
“The new apprenticeship programs we are introducing align with our vision to build a skilled workforce that is ready to tackle tomorrow’s challenges. We’re excited to invite businesses to join us at our National Apprenticeship Week Discovery Event, where they can explore how these programs will not only benefit their organisations but also the talented individuals who will help shape their future.”

This event presents an invaluable opportunity for businesses of all sizes to connect with BCU and discover how apprenticeships can help close skills gaps, all while offering emerging talent the chance to earn while they learn.

By attending the Discovery Event, businesses will also gain deeper insight into BCU’s comprehensive approach to apprenticeships, including information and guidance on funding available for apprenticeships, and our ongoing commitment to supporting workforce development across diverse sectors. We invite all businesses, local and national, to register and join us on February 11th as we continue this exciting journey toward building a brighter, more sustainable future.
