Compassion & Cupcakes – Prioritising Mental Health
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and at Jenks & Cattell Engineering, we believe that caring for our employees’ well-being is essential. We’re making steps to raise awareness, provide support, and fostering a positive work environment.

For Mental Health Awareness Month, we surprised our team with delicious cakes. As they indulged in sweet treats, we also distributed leaflets emphasising the importance of mental health. These leaflets covered topics such as stress management, self-care, and seeking help when needed.

Onsite Mental Health First Aiders

Meet Zoe Collins and Paul Wilcox, our dedicated onsite mental health first aiders. They are currently undergoing training and will be fully qualified by June. Zoe and Paul are approachable, empathetic, and ready to listen. Whether it’s work-related stress, personal challenges, or anything else, they’re here to lend a supportive ear.

Social Events: Connecting and Unwinding

At Jenks & Cattell, we recognize that work isn’t just about tasks and producing metal components—it’s about relationships and well-being. Throughout the year, we organise various social events to help our employees unwind, connect with colleagues, and have fun. Some of our favorites include:

  • Bowling Nights: Strike up conversations while knocking down pins.
  • Horse Racing Excursions: Bet on camaraderie and enjoy a day at the races.
  • Summer & Christmas Parties: Celebrate the seasons with laughter, music, and good company.

These events allow our teams to let off steam, try new experiences, and build friendships across departments.

Encouraging Open Conversations

We encourage our colleagues to talk openly about their feelings. Whether it’s a challenging project, personal struggles, or mental health concerns, we believe that sharing lightens the load. Our management team is trained to guide employees toward appropriate resources. Whether it’s addiction, bereavement, or financial worries, we’re here to help.

Fairy Good Cakes: A Local Treat

Our cupcakes came from a local gem—Fairy Good Cakes. Their bright pink truck pulled up, bringing not only delicious treats but also a sense of community. Supporting local businesses aligns with our values, and it’s a small way to spread joy while promoting mental health awareness.

At Jenks & Cattell Engineering, we’re committed to creating a workplace where mental health matters. By prioritising well-being, fostering connections, and offering support, we aim to build a resilient, productive and compassionate team—one cupcake at a time.
