Why did you choose to start an apprenticeship?
I chose to do an apprenticeship as I wanted to be learning proactively, whilst working. This would provide me with experience that will further enhance my ‘on the job’ performance. The benefit of being in the workplace and at college is that I always have something to work towards, whether it’s attending college workshops or using a new system at work.
What does your learning plan for college consist of?
The Business Administration qualification that I am completing consists of learning the detailed ways a business system works, structures, purposes, processes, time management and many more. These different topics will help build my knowledge for applying the skills in the workplace. As well as teaching me the ability to communicate professionally and to manage change accordingly, the learning plan will also include more specific topics such as marketing principles and customer service skills which will be beneficial to the roles I am currently taking part in at Direct Air.
During my college visits I will be completing knowledge tests and assignments to test the information learnt during the workshops. I enjoy this way of learning as it gives me the opportunity to identify ay gaps in my knowledge. This will all go towards my end point assessment.
What tasks are you taking on in the workplace?
At Direct Air I am currently taking on tasks within the service and marketing departments. In the marketing department I have started creating company leaflets and brochures, writing social posts to promote the engineers completed work and more admin-based tasks. During my days in the service department, I have been shadowing my colleagues to learn the process of quoting further work and invoicing. This is all helping me to gain a better understanding of Direct Air as a company and their daily processes. Working with both Marketing staff and Service Support team has also allowed me to see how different departments align with each other to ensure seamless working.
How will attending the workplace and college combined provide you with skills for life?
By attending both the workplace and college simultaneously, it will aid my skills in communication, organisational skills, and my overall confidence. This will be achieved through the preparation and presentation of projects, holding meetings, and talking to external stakeholders on the phone.
This apprenticeship will help benefit my career as it provides me with information from all aspects of how a company works, sales, marketing and even service, which I may not have received from other educational pathways.
