Second chance - Media Interview training at Birmin...

This is an age in which any aspiring journalist with a half-decent smartphone and a social media account can conduct broadcast interviews.

This means that for representatives of businesses and public organisations of all sizes, a capable and convincing interview technique is an increasingly common requirement.

Media interview situations can involve straightforward questioning to discuss – for example - the announcement of a new policy initiative, the opening of refurbished headquarters or the celebration of an award.

At the other end of the scale, senior personnel can find themselves in crisis management or reputational damage-limitation scenarios, facing extremely hostile cross-examination from journalists.

However good they may be at their day jobs, some leaders and managers may be less confident when it comes to facing a microphone or camera.

Unfortunately, there is only one opportunity to get your point across convincingly in a media interview, with plenty of scope for getting it wrong. And if it does go badly, your seemingly innocuous slip-up can be all over the internet within a few minutes.

However - help is at hand!

Birmingham City University now offers “Media Training for Businesses and Organisations”, a one-day Short Course which will help you maximise your effectiveness as a television & radio interviewee.

The second run of this intensive and interactive training will be on Monday 4th November.

During a packed, activity-filled day, you will learn the principles of media interview best practice, and undertake live role-plays with both ‘friendly’ and ‘hostile’ journalists inside BCU’s state-of-the-art radio and television studios.

By the end of this course, you will be substantially more confident and much better prepared for dealing with journalists.

Places are strictly limited to enable equal microphone and camera time for each individual. If you missed the first one, there now isn’t much time left, so make sure to secure your place!
